I’m a marketing, PR and communications professional based in Toronto, raised in the UK and incubated on the Internet.
In freelance, I’ve worked with numerous Toronto technology creators & gaming studios to get their products & brands in front of countless eyes (and hands!). Over the past 2+ years I’ve worked with a variety of interactive studios with my own freelance marketing and PR business. I also coordinate marketing, events and social media for Wilfrid Laurier University’s Toronto office, full-time. As Marketing Manager of educational technology studio Spongelab, I helped build a global community of over 100,000 learners and gamers through innovative marketing and attentive community management. I’m Community Manager of IGDA Toronto, with numerous offline networking duties including event coordination, as well as a Board Member and event organizer for the Hand Eye Society.
My background includes an MA in Communication & Culture from York University, four years of experience as an award-winning journalist and media project manager, and various stints as an independent researcher (at Ryerson), blogger (at The Escapist, Dorkshelf & elsewhere), website moderator (at Gawker) and new media jam participant (at TIFF). I once spent three months volunteering in Tanzania to help unemployed women launch a handicrafts business, but that’s another story.
